Gauging the level of competition of a horse that shows up at a new track can be difficult, not so much for one that has
been running at Rillito Park and now shows up at Del Mar. How far below Santa Anita is Presque Isle Downs though?
Or between Fresno and the Fairplex? By grading the tracks by their average purse size, we can get an idea of the
relative class that would be expected to run at each track. The recent addition of slot revenues to purses has pushed
several of the lower level tracks to the mid level positions.
